So... I've been in a place where I'm seeking praying, fasting––and still waiting.
Waiting for God to bring the man.
The ordained husband.
The one who will pursue me, see me, and say, "Yep, that's her."
And here's the kicker: I believe I'm getting engaged this year.
Yep, you read that right.
No man.
No proposal.
No hints.
Just vibes––and about five scriptures with the number 5:16 that won't leave me alone.
So naturally, I started asking:
Is this divine instruction...or delusional optimism?
But then I remembered––faith often looks foolish before it looks fulfilled. And God doesn't ask us to "understand the process." He asks us to trust Him through it.
So God Placed 5:16 In My Sight– So What Is He Saying?
I know what you're thinking: "Girl, where did this revelation come from?" Well, during a conversation with my best friend, I casually asked God for a sign. Moments later, a license plate grabbed my attention: --JSM516. At first, it felt random—but soon enough, it felt divinely intentional and You know what else, the song Intentional by Travis Greene played. I'm not making this up. Anyways, So here I am, breaking down what each 5:16 scripture could mean—for me and for you. (Yes, you—the one reading this, wondering if you're also crazy for still hoping.) I was like maybe God is trying to communicate with me so I leaned in and was seeking the answer. So now, here I am breaking down what each 5:16 verse might mean.
Matthew 5:16–Let Your Light Shine
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
Translation: Even if no one's sliding in your DM's right now––shine anyway. Be visible in your faith. Be excellent in your calling. The one God is preparing will see you because of the light you refused to dim. Your radiance is your announcement. You are no longer hidden. You are being preserved.
Encouragement: You don't need to audition for love. You don't have to shrink, prove, or beg to be seen. You're someone's answered prayer––and when he shows up, he'll recognize the light. All the waiting and preparation God was having you go through is finally reaping the harvest.
James 5:16–Prayer Is Powerful
"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
Translation: Those "Lord, just send me the one" prayers you whisper while brushing your teeth? God heard them. Even when you're tired. Even when you're crying and lowkey talking to yourself like you're both the prayer warrior and the therapist.
Encouragement: Your prayer life is not in vain. It's planting roots in places your feet haven't touched yet. Pray like it's already yours.
1 John 5:16–Cover for Others in Prayer
"If you see any brother or sister sin...you should pray to God will give them life."
Translation: Maybe your husband is out there struggling right now. Maybe he's still in a healing season. But what if God is asking you to cover him before you meet him?
Encouragement: Even if you don't know his name, you can speak life into his future. Sometimes, loving in the spirit comes before loving in the flesh. Be a warrior wife before you're a physical wife.
John 5:16–Obedience Can Be Misunderstood/ Often Looks Crazy
"They persecuted Jesus for healing on the Sabbath..."
Translation: Sometimes your obedience won't make sense to people. Not everyone will understand why you're believing for marriage, or the things you and God talk about when you don't have "proof". But guess what? Obedience > optics.
Encouragement: You don't need popular approval to walk in divine purpose. Keep healing, keep hoping, and don't let skeptics slow your surrender.
Mark 5:16– Tell Your Story
"They told people what happened to the demon-possessed man..."
Translation: You've been through some stuff. You've survived heartbreak, abandonment, silent seasons, and "almosts." The story isn't random––it's resurrection.
Encouragement: Your healing is the prelude to your love story or the things you pray for. When the blessing comes, it won't just be about butterflies––it'll be about breakthrough. Tell your story. Someone needs it.
2 Samuel 5:16 & Proverbs 5:16 – Legacy & Boundaries
David's sons...
"Should your springs overflow in the streets?"
Translation: God is preparing you to birth something––whether it's marriage, a ministry, or a whole legacy. But you also need to protect your energy. Don't pour into places that leaves you dry. You heart, your time, your spirit––it's sacred.
Encouragement: Preserve your oil. Every "no" is protecting the "yes" God is still preparing.
So What Is God Actually Saying to Me (and if this resonates with you too)?
You're not delusional. You're being discipled in faith. And just because you don't see a ring yet doesn't mean God's not working behind the scenes. He's building something so aligned, it'll feel like remembering––not meeting.
Here's what I believe the Spirit is whispering:
"Keep shining. Keep praying. Keep covering the man you haven't met. Keep walking boldly in the waiting. And when it happens, it won't be random. It'll be right on time."
Final Word (Or Maybe a Loving Rant to My Future Self)
You don't have to hustle for what's holy. You don't have to fake peace while secretly panicking. And you definitely don't have to lower your light to be loved.
You're not too much. You're not behind. You're not forgotten.
You're becoming. And when God writes your love story, it won't come with confusion. It'll come with confirmation.
To the Woman Who's Still Waiting:
You're not crazy.
You're called.
And this year might just surprise you.
Then the Lord replied:
"Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay." –Habbakkuk 2:2-3
